On Tuesday evening long serving club Chairman Ray Connolly was awarded the Club Official of the Year award by Reigate and Banstead Sports Council. A deserving award by someone who has been instrumental in ensuring the success of one of the most established clubs in Surrey:
Ray Connolly has been Chairman of Reigate Priory FC for over 18 years. He has been instrumental in ensuring the survival of the club and building it into one of the most established clubs within the borough today. The club has:
• 4 senior teams on a Saturday ranging from intermediate through to local league football
• 2 senior sides on a Sunday
• 15 Youth teams ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 18’s
• FA Chartered Standard achieved this year for the Youth Section
• 150 senior members, 350 youth members
Ray’s drive, enthusiasm and dedication has been pivotal in ensuring the clubs success. His overall contribution to the club is an example to all. His hands on approach means he can be often seen refereeing a youth or senior match (he is a qualified referee) through to working extensively behind the scenes ensuring the daily and weekly activities of the club run smoothly. He achieves all of this whilst in full time employment.
During his Chairmanship Ray has ensured that Reigate Priory FC has maintained its status as a financially sound football club, despite the recent financial climate which has had a negative impact on many local teams in the borough.
His ability to continually drive the club forward has recently resulted in Reigate Priory FC taking over another local club along with its clubhouse, pitches and ongoing financial commitments. This will ensure that Reigate Priory can continue to offer and meet the growing demands of attracting and introducing new people in the borough to football.
He has become a person respected by many and an inspiration to those people who come in contact with him. His contribution to football in the borough cannot be underestimated.
