Westside defeat an improving Reigate team 5-1 on Saturday, despite miserable weather conditions, there was still a touch of class on the pitch. Westside kicked off and the early minutes of the game saw both sides fight for possession, Reigate were able to get a foothold in the game and created an early chance with Arnold Saurombe shooting from outside the box but it went straight into the keeper’s hands. Both teams continued to fight but it’s the visitors who begin to dominate and in the 8th minute as Tivon Hiriter dribbles the ball across the box, faking the shot before flicking it onto his right and striking the ball with power but it crashes off the bar. The pressure was building on Reigate and Matt Carter relieved this with a clearance and Luke Reid rose up, flicking the ball onto Danny Roberts who only had the keeper to beat, his left footed shot went under the keeper but the linesmen flagged for offside and disallowed the goal. This bad luck continued for Reigate as in the 29th minute a free kick given away by Matt Carter was swung in by Hiriter, which found Nicholson who rose above the defenders and headed it into the top left corner to make it 1-0. Before the break, Harris battled to win possession in the middle of the park and played a low pass through into Hiriter who pushed off the pressuring defender before slotting it into the bottom left corner, giving Westside a 2-0 lead. With seconds left of the first half Reigate’s frustration was highlighted by David James who put in a two footed challenge on Tanao which resulted in a yellow card.
Shortly after the break Westside tried to cement their lead and were close to doing so when Harris played through Hiriter, who tucked the ball under Halsey but Tanao ran onto the ball and resulted in the linesman flagging for offside and the goal being disallowed. Reigate were fighting to get back into the game and hopes of a comeback began as Arnold Saurombe was played down the wing and found himself with just the keeper to beat, his low shot was saved but the ball was parried back into Saurombe’s path and his second attempt was finished and put Reigate back in the game, 2-1. Hopes of a Reigate comeback were crushed shortly after as in the 56th min Tanao had possession down the wing before playing a short ball into Jarvis who put a perfect cross into the back post where Hiriter sprinted in and side footed it on the volley, the ball flew into the net, out of Mark Halsey’s reach and gave Westside a 3-1 lead. A few minutes later a corner for Westside was crossed into the box by Tanao, Winnister cleared it away but not far enough as the ball fell to the feet of Walters who hit it first time and found the bottom corner with ease. Reigate had become poor in this second half and it showed as in the 60th minute Hiriter was taken down in the box resulting in a penalty, Hiriter put the ball on the spot and placed it in the bottom right with power, 5-1. One last chance in the game as Arnold Saurombe powered through into the box and his right footed shot bounced off the post. An extremely entertaining game finished 5-1, Reigate showing signs of improvement and hope to get a better result in their next fixture against Battersea Ironsides.
