Saturday 28th July 2018 – 13.00 kick off
Reigate Priory hosted Forestdale at Netherne in the first official pre-season match of the campaign. The visitors had been relegated from Surrey South East Combination Division 1 last season but with several new additions to their squad were already enjoying good results during their pre-season preparations.
In a game of few chances, it was the visitors that went ahead on the half hour mark, when Scott Johnson inadvertently bundled a Forestdale player over in the box and referee; Colin Wood somewhat harshly awarded a penalty. The penalty was coolly despatched past Halsey leaving the Reigate side one nil down at the break. Priory moved the ball well in the second half but lacked any real structure to their attacking play. They were rarely threatened at the back either. Halsey saved with his feet from a narrow angled shot but other than that the Priory defence stood firm with new centre-back pairing Luke Reid and Paul Coomber looking untroubled throughout. With ten minutes remaining Priory were awarded a penalty after a bit of trickery from Arnold Saurombe in the box invited a late challenge from the Forestdale defender which led to Colin Wood to point to the spot once again. Jason Woolsey calmly placed the ball high into the Forestdale net for the equaliser. All things considered, Priory made a decent account of themselves and there were some good performances from Dermot McInerney on his first team debut and encouraging efforts from other new players; Will Osei, James Long as well as Jay Mouskos, Gonzalo Munoz and Joe Charles.
Line Up/Squad: Halsey, McInerney, Coomber, Reid, Johnson, Hughes, Long, Winnister, Mouskos, Charles, Osei, Gonzalo Munoz, Rose, Woolsey, Saurombe.
