Reigate Priory faced Bermondsey on a 3G artificial pitch on Saturday with both teams hovering perilously close to the relegation zone. The home side could have gone one up inside the first minute but Mark Halsey in the Priory goal saved with his feet from point blank range. But just ten minutes in and Bermondsey took the lead with a powerful close range header from their forward. The same towering forward doubled the home side’s lead midway through the first half coolly slotting the ball in off the post from just inside the box. Bradley Johnson pulled one back for Priory with a powerful twenty yard half volley on the half hour mark, but Bermondsey went in 3-1 at the break with a well struck shot high into the net. Priory had to withstand a lot of pressure and Halsey prevented the home side going further ahead with three saves in one-on-one situations. Midway through the second half Priory pulled a goal back with a free kick headed back across the box by Dave McLaughlin for Alex Frullini to head in and with ten minutes remaining Bradley Johnson’s determined mazy run ended with him squaring the ball for substitute Shane O’Keeffe to tap in from close range for the equaliser. Priory almost nicked all three points with Bradley Johnson’s curling free-kick in the dying minutes shaving the outside of the post but the Reigate side earned a well deserved point putting them another step closer to safety.
